Chris Mayer ran at Dacula High School from 2002-2006 under Andy Christie. He then ran for Paul Deaton at Berry College from 2006-2011. Chris was at The Lovett School in Atlanta from 2013-2023 after spending the 2011-2012 season at Mill Creek as an Assistant XC/Track coach and the 2012-2013 season at Mountain View High School as a Head XC/Assistant Track coach. Starting this fall he will be an assistant coach at Athens Academy. He served as a Staff Coach for the Nike Smoky Mountain Running Camp from 2014-2019.

Chris’s coaching philosophy is one largely focused on manageable, consistent training, and progression over time with lower volume and an emphasis on neuro-muscular development and bio mechanics. He enjoys finding solutions by being creative in training and writing unique workouts, and openly shares training advice and ideas with fellow coaches.

Under Chris’s guidance Lovett distance athletes have achieved 5 team State titles (2 girls cross country, 2 girls track, 1 boys cross country) and 16 individual State titles across Track and Cross Country. Athletes have reached the heights of Nike Cross Nationals (Serena Tripodi) and Brooks PR Invitational (Everett Smulders). He lives in Marietta with his wife Ashlea.
